This has to be the strangest food that I've eaten while in Japan. I was at a restaurant with a group of friends and one of them order some Basashi (horse sashimi) for us to try. I really enjoy regular fish sushi and sashimi, but the idea of eating raw meat was a bit scary and the fact that it was horse meat made it even stranger. Two of the other people tried it and didn't instantly die, so I gave it a try. The meat had a pretty strong smell, but wasn't too bad tasting. I felt like Andrew Zimmern from the Bizarre Foods TV show. I don't think I'll make this a regular part of my meals, but it was an interesting experience.
